Fall & Winter Home Maintenance Tips

As the air gets cooler, the leaves start to change, and soon will be welcoming snow, it’s time to start preparing your home for the new seasons.

  • Schedule the annual services on your HVAC systems (furnace, air exchanger, AC unit) to ensure efficient performance in your home and insert a fresh filter in your Furnace
  • Have your irrigation system drained and lines blown out to prevent pipes freezing
  • Switch your diverter valve to divert water to the city sewer to prevent water freezing in your exterior sump pump line
  • Remove exterior black sump pump hose
  • Turn your Air Exchanger on and maintain your relative humidity
  • Turn off your exterior hose bibs water lines and disconnect exterior hoses
  • Ensure your window sills are clean of dirt and weep holes are clear
  • Clean gutters free from leaves
  • Change batteries in your smoke/CO2 detectors
  • Service your snow blower to ensure it’s ready for Winter
  • Utilize the bucket of sand for those icy sidewalks! Remember- no deicer or salt
  • Fall is a good time to fertilize your lawn- you can purchase this at a local hardware store
